Real Madrid defender Toni Rudiger has expressed regret for his outburst at the end of the Copa del Rey final against Barcelona. The match ended in a 3-2 victory for Barcelona in extra-time, with Rudiger and Lucas Vazquez receiving red cards for protesting a decision made against Kylian Mbappe. Jude Bellingham also received a red card for arguing with match officials.
According to the referee's report, Rudiger was dismissed for throwing an object from the technical area, which missed him. The object in question was reportedly an ice cube from the bench.
Rudiger has taken to social media to apologise for his actions, stating that there is "no excuse" for his behaviour. He has expressed his regret to the referee and to everyone he has disappointed.
Rudiger may face a lengthy ban from the RFEF, which could range from several weeks to six months for "assault on referees", even if the act did not cause any harm.
The incident has sparked concerns about Rudiger's future involvement in the competition.
