The home side was in desperate need of a win, having gone three months without one. Their early signs of revival suggested that they had found the solution to their struggles, and Stuani proved to be the hero they needed. He scored the opening goal after a long pass caused confusion in the Mallorca defence.
Girona was in control for most of the game, with Portu forcing a great save from Mallorca goalkeeper Dominik Greif. Despite Mallorca's lack of scoring opportunities, they almost equalised but were thwarted by Paulo Gazzaniga's excellent save. The goalkeeper's strong wrist denied Sergi Darder's shot from distance, tipping it wide for a corner.
In the second half, Girona continued to dominate, with Yangel Herrera having a promising moment from distance. However, his shot curled just wide of Greif's post. Herrera again found space on the edge of the box and hit the target, but Greif made another fine save to keep his team in the game.
Greif was the hero of the night for Mallorca, producing several fine saves to deny Viktor Tsyhankov, Portu, and other Girona players. Despite a late surge, Mallorca couldn't find the quality needed to score and earned a draw.
The win moves Girona six points clear of relegation, while Mallorca remains level on points with Osasuna and Rayo Vallecano de Madrid in the fight for European football next season.
The home fans celebrated the crucial win, which brings them closer to survival and ends a long run of poor results.
