Merseyside Police have confirmed that a 47-year-old man from Liverpool was arrested and taken into custody for questioning in relation to a racially aggravated public order offence.
Semenyo expressed gratitude to his teammates, Liverpool, and the football community for their support. The FIFA President, Gianni Infantino, praised Semenyo's courage and performance on the pitch, saying it was a powerful example of strength and dignity for players worldwide.
The FIFA Players' Voice Panel, established to combat racism in football, has offered its support to Semenyo and will be monitoring the situation closely. The panel is committed to ensuring that players are respected and protected, and that competition organisers and law enforcement authorities take appropriate action.
Premier League chief executive, Richard Masters, has also warned that anyone found guilty of racist abuse will face consequences, including being banned from stadiums and potential prosecution.
Semenyo also revealed that he had been subjected to racist abuse online after the game.
