Newcastle had expressed interest in signing Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt, but the German club rejected their record-breaking offer of £70 million.

Liverpool has now joined the pursuit of Ekitike, although no formal bid has been made yet.

Last season, Ekitike impressed in the German league, scoring 22 goals and providing 12 assists in 48 games across all competitions.
